Grenita Lathan Salary: Temporary superintendent Dr. Grenita Lathan of Houston ISD found a permanent job for superintendents following another demanding school year as head of the state’s largest district. Lathan said at a news conference on Monday afternoon, “I have accepted a new position with Springfield Public Schools in Springfield, Missouri.” “I learned a lot and hope to take with me here to Springfield the lessons that have been learned.” Lathan, the first woman superintendent and colorful man to serve in his position, says Springfield Public Schools, has received unanimous support from Lathan’s board of directors. This is much different from what she recently received from a majority.
It is far from what she received recently from a majority of the HISD board, who voted against Lathan’s permanent position as provisional superintendent after three years.
Allen voted to maintain Lathan and said that Lathan had effectively navigated HISD over multiple crises, despite the challenges that had led to the possible TEA take-over and the FBI raid involving central office staff. “After Hurricane Harvey, after the pandemic, she did some fantastic job, and the pandemic has not even come to an end,” Allen said. “And with the winter tempest to restore order to those schools.”
